MICK JAGGER story in The Guardian (UK) - 11.10.12
photograph by Alan MESSER 1969

I took this photograph at the press call in Hyde Park on June 13th, 1969, when the Stones introduced new band member Mick Taylor
(Brian Jones' replacement) and announced their upcoming free concert in the park for July 5th.
There were loads of photographers, Dezo Hoffmann and an 18 year old, me.

NOVEMBER 6
HOORAY!  SHINE ON LADY LIBERTY.

There was much excitement and jubilation tonight.
Fortunately the best man won.
Now the political soap is over, can I get my street cleaned, the traffic lights repaired and please stop with the pesticides!

OCTOBER 25
DAVE STEWART, "The Ringmaster" preparing to go on stage at The Mercy Lounge.

An awesome performance of the new album and some Eurythmics hits with a great band at my favourite Nashville club.

New York memorial near Ground Zero - August 2002

Beyond the politics, it is about people.
It's about mothers and fathers, sons and brothers, sisters and daughters, friends, lovers, husbands and wives.
It is about 2,792 lives that were lost and those who remain, bereaved, to live without.

Peace To All People.

ROLLING STONES - HYDE PARK - July 5th 1969
Never lend your press pass even, if you are with the band and promoter! I did and got attacked by a Hells Angel and thrown out, but I got back in after friending another Angel. I got a sore chin but I did get the pictures!!!

I photographed Mick Taylor in the Stones office (9 Maddox Street, London) - June 1969 on the day he joined the band. He was really excited!
Then I photographed Keith a couple of weeks later after the Hyde Park Concert.

JON LORD
June 9 1941 – July 16 2012

The legendary "Hammond" keyboard player and co-founder of Deep Purple died today in London, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Jon co-wrote many of the band's legendary songs and was co-founder of the group. I was a big Deep Purple fan and got to work with them and subsequently with Paice, Ashton, Lord (PAL). My studio was across the street from their Purple Records office.
I photographed Jon's Butterfly Ball at the Albert Hall with Deep Purple and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 1975.
Jon Lord was a great musician and a charming Englishman.
